The keyword method was developed in order to facilitate vocabulary memorisation. It works like this:

1. Choose a word in your native language that almost sounds the same.
2. Visualise the word in your native language and link it to the traanslation of the word.

Example

The Spanish word for beach is playa. Playa sounds like player. Now think about Brasilian football players playing football at the beach.

Whenever you hear the word playa, you will think of the players at the beach and you can translate playa.

Example (from my life)

I always had a problem to memorise the English word for „Mandel“ which is almond. Don’t ask me why. Maybe because I don’t need it that much.

Now I memorise it that way: Mandel = almond

Mandel = Mand + el –> Change order: el mand –> English spoke
