General Features of the Flashcard App:

Changing Font Size

Upon your request in the wishlist, you can now enlarge the font size of the cards using: Menu →  Settings.

Auto-Sync the iPhone Flashcard App with the Server

The automatic sync in the end of a learning session at an existing internet connection is another request that has been implemented in this version. As a result, the learning levels and other changes (formatting, new Flashcards… etc.) will be synced.

Creating an Account

Registering in the iPhone Flashcard App is now easy-peasy. Your password is sent to your valid email address. Please log out and log in again with your password to insure correct synchronisation.

Change Answer/Question

You can now decide if you want to see the question or the answer first.

Activating the Full Functionality

Upgradding to Pro is now also possible directly within the Flashcard App. Renewing your membership as well.

Design Adjustments

We have improved the look a little bit. Hope you like it.

Displaying/ Creating Folders

As of now, and upon your request, folders will appear in the iPhone Flashcard App.

Creating Flashcard Sets

Another new and requested feature is the ability to create flashcard sets. Now available for Pro users.

Creating/ Deleting Cards

This feature was also on the wishlist, so we have implemented it. Now you can create lists and tables with a click.

Editing/ Formatting Cards

This was the most difficult feature to implement; but we did it. LaTeX formulas cannot be edited on mobile devices.  Uploading a picture is also not possible.

Searching for Cards

Requested by Markus on the wishlist, this feature is now introduced to our iPhone  Flashcard App users. You can now enter text, tap the magnifying glass and select from the search results. You can then navigate (browse) through the flashcard set as well.

Leitner-Algorithm

As requested, we have also introduced learning by following our e-coach’s guidelines. This option can be activated for each flashcard set.

IMPORTANT: If you have installed CoboCards v1 manually, please uninstall first and delete folder „com.cobocards“ from your SD-card. Then install CoboCards v2 from Play Store.

And now to the details of the features that are provided in this version.

Landscape Format

It is now possible to learn in landscape format as well. The rotation can be adjusted under: “Settings”.

Activating the Complete Functions

This feature is now also possible directly on the Flashcard App. Renewing your membership is possible as well.

Design Adjustments

We have improved the look of the design a little bit. The buttons have been particularly moved from the Menu to the Action Bar.

Unlimited Functionality of the Flashcard App:

Displaying/ Creating Folders

As of now, and upon your request, the folders will appear in the Android Flashcard App. If a flashcard set that is located in a folder is being downloaded, then the flashcard set will be downloaded together with this folder at the same time. In addition, you can now create folders directly on your Smartphone. Please note, that when you remove a folder (by pressing on the folder and holding for a while) then the folder will be removed from the Smartphone. The permanent deletion must be done online.

Creating Flashcard Sets

Another new and requested feature is the ability to create flashcard sets. Again, if you press and hold for a while the flashcard sets will be removed, but won’t be permanently deleted.

Creating/ Deleting Cards

This feature was also on the wishlist of our users, so we have implemented it. Now you can create lists and tables with a click. The card will be deleted in the deleting process.

Editing/ Formatting Cards

This may be the most difficult feature to be implement on the wishlist; but we still did it. LaTeX formulas cannot be edited on mobile devices.  Uploading a picture is also not possible, and therefore difficult to implement. Otherwise the familiar formatting options are available.

Searching for Cards

Requested by Markus on the wishlist, this feature is now introduced to our Android Flashcard App users. You can now enter text, tap the magnifying glass and select from the search results. You can then navigate (browse) through the flashcard set as well.

Leitner- Algorithm

As requested, we have also introduced learning by following our e-coach’s guidelines. This option can be activated for each flashcard set. You can then see the cards that are to be revised for that day in ‘Home’. Tapping this number will direct you –without detours- to the inquiry of the cards.

Remove folders by pressing the folder for 2 seconds. Please be aware that folder is just removed. Deletion has to be done online.

Beta tester liked the new version and the new features. We hope all others will do the same.

In principle our flashcard apps for iPhone and Android (Version 2.0) are finalised. As you wished we implemented the feature to sync both – levels and added/edited flashcards – at the same time. However, syncing process takes a while then. We asked ourselves – and some users via our Facebook fanpage – if you would rather prefer flashcard apps with a quicker sync process or with a quick launch of the apps and work on this issue afterwards (in release 2.1).

In accordance with users we decided not to go live and re-build the sync process. As you know we always aim high quality solutions. Our flashcard apps need to meet your and our high quality standards.

As always we do our best to provide a solution as quick as possible.

When looking at both the English and German web-based flashcard programmes two stand out – which have continued to grow and been developed with a high degree of commitment in recent years: Quizlet and our Flashcard Programme CoboCards.

Quizlet is a content-based flashcard programme which came out of the U.S. It is particularly well-suited for vocabulary and definitions. The platform therefore appeals more to school learners. Quizlet is financed by advertising, but it can be switched off for USD 10. The advantage of Quizlet: it’s easy to use.

In addition, Quizlet offers educational games for a fun way of learning vocabulary.
Our flashcard programme works particularly well for students, but professionals and school learners also enjoy using the software. Our business model offers one free, but limited version and one paid, full version. Our flashcard programme, with full functionality, can be used from EUR 3 per month. The advantages of our flashcard programme: it’s simple, intuitive usability

Additionally, we also offer a flashcard programme for iPhone and Android mobile phones. A useful addition to the online platform.

Conclusion

Revenue through advertising inevitably leads to platform development that is more in favour of the advertiser. That – and the fact that advertisments interfere with the learning – has always discouraged us from funding CoboCards through advertising. Perhaps a criticism of Quizlet. However, CoboCards could make the platform more open (for instance, to allow users to be able to learn in the Pool without having to register) and the community participation could also be improved. As you can see from the two blogs, Quizlet users respond more actively to blog posts. This means that the platform always contains feedback on completed activities. Our flashcard programme is ultimately a learning tool and not a discussion forum. As long as our users are happy, so are we 🙂

I stumpled upon the Flashcard App of your competitors. It is not that well-designed, complicated to use, unfriendly, colour-choice is awful. Seems like made by engineers without eyes for the details.

Additionally it is more expensive than your Flashcard App.
