What are the procedures for loss of steering (hydraulics)?
- Reduce RPM to clutch ahead on both engines
- Notify crew of casualty
- Verify current position, evaluate situation, and contact unit/Operational Commander
- Coxswain steer with engines, if needed
- Crew member investigate the casualty
- Check steering pump for hydraulic leak
- Check helm hydraulic fill for presence of fluid
- Check hydraulic lines in starboard aft deck box for leaks
- Check steering
- Crew member rig the anchor, as directed by the coxswain
- Place engines in neutral
- Attempt to repair steering system
